30-HOUR FAMINE: The 30 Hour Famine is powered by World Vision, a leading Christian ministry serving people in need in nearly 100 countries. Every year, students around the world unite through the Famine to help feed hungry children – and to help families overcome poverty and injustice. The CCUMC youth group is taking on the 30 Hour Famine and is choosing to go without so others won’t have to. Please join us as we work to provide for 8 children in the Congo for an entire year.
Sunday, Feb. 19 – our youth will have some tables set up in the welcome area with some information about the Famine and the Congo. We will have some of the food World Vision provides for the congregation to taste, a video running and a few other things for the congregation to learn more about what we are doing and why.
Feb. 25-26: The 30 Hour Famine will begin Saturday morning with breakfast at 8am. The youth will be partnering with the Smithville UMC youth group and we will spend Saturday doing various service projects in the community. A couple youth will share about their experience during church on Sunday, and the fast will be broken at 3pm with communion and then a feast.
STRAWBERRIES FOR STARVATION: On Valentines Sunday (Feb. 12th) the youth will be selling hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries to raise funds towards our 30-Hour Famine goal. Pre-order forms will be available on Sunday, Feb. 5th. Purchase a dozen for $10 or a half-dozen for $6.
YOUTH PARENTS MEETING: If your youth are involved in the CCUMC youth group, there will be a mandatory parents meeting on February 12 at 3:15 pm.
CONFIRMATION: Our first session started Wednesday, Feb. 1st and the class will run through mid-March. Please pray for our youth as they embark on a journey to make their faith their own.
United Methodist Action Reaching-out Mission by Youth: The week before Christmas was abnormally crazy this year as we hosted the first UMARY Christmas Camp our conference has ever attempted. The teams went out during the day and served in our community, working on several home sites that were affected by the fires. With 43 high school students, college students, and adults living in the church for a few days, the typical CCUMC generosity abounded! Thank you all for your prayers and support, we could not have done it without you!
Costa Rica Summer 2012: Have you ever thought about going on an international msision trip? Here's your chance! Please join us for an Info Session on Wednesday, January 18th at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall to learn more. The people going will determine the dates and final cost of the trip. If you are interested, but cannot attend the Info Session, please let Katy know so she can include you in the upcoming plans and pre-trip meetings.
Wanted: Coats, Blankets & Sleeping Bags: After volunteering with a local homeless ministry and seeing the need for warm coats and blankets, the CCUMC youth have decided to collect these items for those in need. Please bring any used or new items to church with you over the next couple of weeks, and we will deliver them to the Open Doors homeless ministry. Thank you for the participation and support!
