  • Powerful Tools for Caregivers - A free six-week course that provides emotional support for family caregivers. The curriculum covers self-care Behaviors (e.g. increased exercise, relaxation and medical check-ups), management of emotions (reduced guilt, anger, and depression), self-efficacy (increased confidence in coping with Caregiving demands), and use of community resources (increased utilization of local services). Powerful Tools for Caregivers will be offered at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church on Saturdays beginning October 4 through November 8th, from 11:30-1:30. • Have You Noticed?  Our CCUMC grounds have been looking groomed! A beautiful lawn does not happen by itself! Join a Lawn Care Team to help keep them beautiful! We are creating more Teams in order to have a once a month rotation. Sign up today! Contact Jim Cole @ 512-985-5980 “The earth is the lord’s and everything in it.” Psalm 24:1.

As an added note, the CCUMC Trustees have started a Lawn Mower Fund to replace our 10-year old church lawn mower and you can help by donating to the fund. We hope to be able to purchase a new one before our old one moves on the Heavenly pastures. Please make checks out to CCUMC-Lawn Mower Fund. All donations are greatly appreciated.

  • Circle of Support: Recently many of our CCUMC family have experienced setbacks in health, injuries, loss of family members, or changes in circumstances that result in an increased need for support from other church family members. The gals in the Brown Bag Bible Study today have decided to begin a "Circle of Support" ministry. We're going to start with prayer shawls and lap robes but we can see the need to include a casserole ministry, and other support services needed. If you would like to participate in some way, please send me an e-mail or give me a call at 512-718-2436. The more participants we have, the larger the numbers of those to whom we can lend our support. Roberta Laundy

  • Prayer Room Open for Business - It's comforting to know that CCUMC is bathing every ministry in prayer and is specifically asking God to bless those in need of specific prayers. The prayer room is open, for whosoever will, one time or on-going, on Sundays from 8:30-9:00am and Wednesdays from 5:15-5:45pm. Praying for others is one of the nicest things we can do. A big thank you to Melba Conley, who has been diligently leading this effort.

  • Men’s Bible Study Changing:  Changes are in the plans for the small group of men who meet on Tuesday nights to study God’s word. Beginning on March 11, the time they meet will change to 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. each Tuesday. Their method of study will also change. They will concentrate their study on particular book of the bible. The first book chosen, is Micah. This small group meets in room 201 each week and would welcome any men who want to fellowship and learn more about God’s message. Contact Ed Laundy at edlaundy@earthlink.net or 512-718-2435 for more information.

  • Bastrop New Hope Respite Care:  The Alzheimer’s Association of the Greater Austin Area and First United Methodist Church of Bastrop will be opening Bastrop New Hope Respite Center for Caregivers of Alzheimer’s and other Dementia related diseases. This program is a pilot program for Bastrop County. The centers are all faith based. They provide a comfortable, stimulating environment for persons with dementia to engage in activities with new friends and allows caregivers time to confidently attend to non caregiving activities. Many caregivers do not have family or friends to turn to and 75% of those being afflicted with the disease are cared for at home. The center will be manned all by volunteers, trained by the Alzheimer’s Association. The  program charges nothing to the participants and has no way of funding the program aside from donations, both monetary and in-kind. The only way this program can work is through the generous support of the faith community.  Every 67 someone develops Alzheimer’s or dementia and it is now an escalating national crisis. The Respite Center The center is open on Thursday’s from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM, except major holidays in the Fellowship Hall of F.U.M.C. Applications are being taken for early and middle stage participants. If you have been touched in any way by this disease and would like to volunteer or provide some financial assistance, you can get additional information by emailing or by calling Brenda at 512-581-2691 or Pat New at 512-308-1997
